Our Story
The Duke of Edinburgh Pub was established in 1983. The slang word "Pub" is an abbreviation of "public house", which in England traditionally connotated a house, open to the public, where refreshments were available. Such refreshments included good food, and of course alcoholic beverages.
Regarding the pub sign, it follows tradition as pictures were originally used such as the Red Lion or the King’s Head, as the majority of the population were illiterate.
For the sign, we thought we were getting the Queen’s husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, who was up to Hollywood standards. Unfortunately, as you can see, that did not happen. Cheers!
