British pubs are typically much more than drinking holes. They serve an important social function. A pub is a meeting place, an entertainment centre, and a place to relax. It is the center or heart of a community.
What to drink?
Beer comes in several distinct types. To have a taste of particularly British beer, get a pint of bitter. This is a flavorful, slightly bitter beer that is sessionable. It has a great variety of strengths, flavours, colour (from gold to dark amber), and aromas.
For an authentic pub experience, or to have something that’s traditional and brewed in a way that is very similar to how it was done hundreds of years ago, try some ales that are often found in England. Here are a few names of those which are served here: Bass, Fullers ESB, Old Speckled Hen and Boddingtons.
Other types include stout, which is the famous black beer of Ireland, namely Guinness.
If you want something more familiar and cold like traditional American beer, we also carry lagers, namely Harp and Stella Artois.
How are drinks ordered?
Traditionally, volume is indicated when ordering beer. So you may say something like “a pint of Speckled Hen, a half of Bass, or a can of Guinness, please”.
